Cayanne's Cayette ~ 1988

Born 4-5-1967
Cayanne’s Cyette was a 3-year-old Appaloosa mare that was bought at a sale in Roseville, CA. Gail Marion fell in love with Cayanne’s Cyette at the sale, she kept going back all day to look at her and when she entered the area Ron Cavanaugh looked at A.C. Marion and said over the loud speaker “here you go dad, this is the one”! A.C. Marion bought Cayanne’s Cyette and the history started. Cyette went to Huntington Beach, CA to Marion’s Stables and started her new life. A.C. had a trainer start working with Cyette and Gail. Both learned together. In 1972 the Marion’s joined the Calizona Appaloosa Horse Club Inc.

One day at the stables in Huntington Beach a man in a beat up yellow pick up drove in and started talking to A.C. he said he was a trainer and looking for a new place to train horses. Art Gaytan became the new trainer at Marion Stables and the history started. Art Gaytan began to work with Cyette and Gail. The pair started with a few local show ETI Shows and then worked their way to the Appaloosa bred shows. In 1972 the team of Cyette and Gail became Calizona Appaloosa Horse Clubs Year End High Point Youth with awards in Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, Showmanship, Trail 13 –17, English Pleasure, English Equitation, Western Riding, Open Trail and Western Pleasure Sr. Horse. Cyette received an “Award of Excellence” for High Point Trail Horse and the High Point Western Pleasure Horse of the year. This qualified Cyette to compete in the World Playoffs in Sweetwater, Texas. Because of the distance and timing the Marion’s declined but said next year for sure. The winning of Cyette continued in 1973 with several High Point Horse awards at shows all over California and Reserve State Champion in Sr. Pleasure Horse and 3rd in State Wide Trail Horse, Cal Western Appaloosa as well as Calizona High Point Western Pleasure Sr. Horse and Western Riding. Gail also continued winning with Cyette, High Point 13 –17 Showmanship, English Pleasure, English Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, and Trail. 1973 was a big year for the Marion’s they headed for Salem, Oregon to the 26th Annual Appaloosa Horse Show in July 2 through July 7. Gail won 4th in bareback equitation riding Cyette.

The showing continued thru 1974 with campaigning up and down the state of California for Cal Western and Calizona points. More High Point Performance Horse awards and several youth awards continued to be added to an already outstanding show record. Art Gaytan worked to bring Cyette to the highest performance standards matched by only a few competitors. Cyette was crossed over into virtually every discipline offered in Appaloosa classes. She rose to the occasion with more sprit and talent that anyone could ask for. Cyette proved that she was one of kind. If you asked her to do something she was willing to give her all to achieve it. Cayanne’s Cyette went on to bring Gail Marion to the their goal of Calizona Appaloosa Club Queen for 1974 and 1975.

1975 brought more awards for Cayanne’s Cyette. Several High Point Performance Horse Awards at several shows in California and year-end awards such as High Point Performance Horse in the Calizona Appaloosa Club as well as helping Gail win high point all around youth and multiple individual youth awards. But Cyette was about to win the biggest award of them all in November at the World Playoffs in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - World Champion Performance Horse.

Appaloosas from 47 states and Canada came to Oklahoma to compete for the prestigious title. Cyette qualified for the World Playoffs in Senior Western Pleasure and competed against 88 horses to place 4th, Open Trail against 94 horses to place 4th, Senior English Pleasure – Hunt Seat against 80 horses to place 1st and in Senior English Pleasure - Saddle Seat against 34 horses to place 1st. Competition was tough and several days into the show just 10 points separated the top horses. The winner was in doubt until the final class, Senior English Pleasure – Saddle Seat. Cayanne’s Cyette won the class and with that win she was named 1975 World Champion Appaloosa Performance Horse. It was a wonderful moment fit for a true Champion, Cayanne’s Cyette the mare that could and gave her all won it all.

Cyette had the heart of a champion. Whatever was asked, she gave her all. Cyette was so well versed that over the years she competed in Halter, Showmanship, English Pleasure, English Equitation, Saddle Seat, Driving, Western Pleasure, Western Equitation, Bareback, Reining, Cutting, Trail, Hunter Hack, Jumping, Stake Race, Rope Race and the Costume Class. Cyette was so willing to learn and so well trained by Art Gaytan that she could be ridden with no bridle or saddle, responding to only leg and voice commands.

There was no end to her talent and spirit. She was truly a world-class horse, proving it every time she stepped into the ring. She was a force to be reckoned with every time she entered the show ring, bringing the heart of a champion to the horse show world and the Appaloosa breed. Cayanne’s Cyette possessed the skill and intelligence few horses are blessed with while making her way into the hearts of Appaloosa owners from coast to coast. Cayanne’s Cyette was a true champion of champions.
